The Master's Men - In His Hands

Our newest release, In His Hands sends praises to our Lord for the assurance we have when we turn over everything to Him. It's also a fitting tribute to our Founding Director, Arranger, and dear friend, Rudy Partin, into whose hands we gladly gave our voices, sharing his gift of music and laughter, until our Father called Rudy home in November of 2004. Rudy's last arrangement, I Saw The Light, is included in this CD. Rudy's personal salvation story, one that he freely shared with all who would listen, is retold in the liner notes, and serves as a blessed reminder of how one man's life can be turned around by His loving hand, and be used to change lives and hearts for the service of God.

“Of all the parts of the human body, the hand has the most magical quality, spanning the full range of human emotions. Within Holy Scripture, the word “hand” appears over 1600 times. Artists have painted it, poets have written about it. The hand, more than any other part of the body, acts out the mind’s plan. Someone has said, 'It is the mind’s only perfect vessel.' Hands powerfully symbolize: action and influence, blessing and joy, healing and love, penitence and prayer.

It was Sunday morning, August 10, 1997, when I first witnessed the incredible power of music through the conducting hands of Rudy Partin. I remember watching that morning with my eyes and experiencing with my heart a fullness of God’s handiwork while Rudy directed The Master’s Men; fully invested in each note, crafting every movement, designing, even as they were singing, a pure harmonious sound. For what was in his mind strung the cords of his heart, and his gift was to wave his hands and pull forth the best quality of sound from each person singing in that group. There was power in the hands of this man.

Founder, arranger, director – for The Master’s Men, Rudy unveiled his passion and his driving force in life. But let me hasten on to say that in truth, we all know that what is grasped in the hands of a mortal can be a blessing; it can also be a curse. It can be an instrument of God; it can be a weapon of destruction. It can be used to build up life; it can be used to tear down life. Rudy experienced life at its peak and life at its lowest. There was a time when Rudy Partin knew that what was in his hand was tearing at the very fiber of his being. And it was wrecking everything in his pathway of life. Likened to Paul’s Damascus experience, Rudy experienced a radical transformation in his life..."

From the Eulogy for Rudy Maurice Partin, by the Reverend Rick Clayton, St. Francis United Methodist Church, Cary North Carolina, November 12, 2004.
